- İşlem A small bandage or dressing may be placed on the area afterwards. This should stay in place for the time recommended by your doctor.
- A small amount of blood may appear on the bandage and this is normal. You should apply the prescribed antibiotic cream to the area 2 times a day.
- There is no harm in taking a shower 24 hours after the procedure and contacting the area with shampoo. You can renew the bandage on the area when necessary.
- There may be some bruising and swelling at the surgical site. Apply ice to the affected side (at 20-minute intervals) for the first 48 hours after surgery. After 48 hours, stop applying ice.
- Keep your head in a partially upright position and above your body for at least 24 hours, especially when sleeping or resting.
- You may be given muscle relaxants, painkillers, antibiotics and/or anti-inflammatory pain medication. Take all medicines as prescribed
- For 1 week following surgery, your diet should consist of a soft diet, as excessive chewing will irritate your joint. The diet does not need to be limited to liquids, but the consistency should be cottage cheese, pasta, egg salad, mashed potatoes and other soft foods that do not require heavy chewing.
- Avoid bending, heavy lifting or any activity that causes increased pressure in the head area.
- You will have a follow-up appointment scheduled for you, usually in 7-14 days. You should try to attend your follow-up appointments
- If you wore a night plate before surgery or if a night plate has been prepared for you, you can continue to wear a night plate for the time and on the schedule described.
- From the day after surgery, you will need to start jaw exercises to reduce stiffness in the joint associated with the surgery.
- Using the abesangs (wooden tongue depressors) provided, stretch the jaw as indicated. Start with as many abesangs as will fit in your mouth. Each day, add at least one abeslang until all the abesangs are used and the jaw is fully 35-40 mm open. This exercise should be completed 7 times a day, 7 repetitions each time, maintaining each hold for at least 7 seconds.
